Kerr Lake
Kerr Lake is located on the border of NC and VA, a few miles north of the intersection of NC-1 and I-85. Exits 214-223 are exits to the various areas at Kerr Lake.
Kerr Lake is very nice at night because it has lighted markers, and very little light pollution from the surrounding area. The stars there are magnificent.
The majority of good open water is north of the state line in VA. Due to the tall north-south run of the NC portion of the lake, you will probably not want to sail there unless the winds are coming from the east or west (unless you like tacking every few minutes!).
Park Hours:
November-February, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
March and October, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
April, May, September, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
June-August, 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

There are many ramps to launch from, although the docks at most ramps are a bit short for sailcraft and seem to be made for the bass boat crowd.
- Nutbush is a campground/boat ramp at the south end of the lake that
is open 24 hours. It has a single lane ramp and a very short dock. In
Sept 2001 the ramp looked to be in bad repair and had lots of silt,
but launching was possible there with a 2.5' draft boat.
- Henderson Point is close to the NC/VA line on the west side of the
lake. It has 3 ramps, but no docks. A recent check found that there
is also heavy silting at the ramps.
- Hibernia has a good ramp, deep water, and a dock to put boats at after
they are in the water. This would be the ideal spot for sailors to use.
- Satterwhite Point has a marina and a ramp.
